From Chief Patterson - Buffalo Police B District
As part of our efforts to fight crime in the district we want to make you aware of what our crime stats show as a spike in burglaries in the district. It is also crucial that neighbors perform the following checklist on their homes to see if their home is adequately secured:
- Functional door locks with deadbolts on all exterior doors
- Functional window locks on all windows
- Burglary alarm system (research and install)
- Motion lighting installed for rear, side and front exterior of home.
- Window AC units that are properly fastened to windows versus loosely placed
- Removal of items around the house where burglars can prop themselves up and enter through a window
- Knowledge of trusted neighbors to watch homes for one another
This provides a guide for what it takes to secure your home. In the next week we will be distributing burglary prevention tip flyers door to door in the areas where we are experiencing the increase. Stay Well. If you see
something suspicious happening on your street, call 911 first, and then write down everything you see such as:
- gender
- race
- hair and clothing description
- vehicle color
- what specifically you witnessed
- If possible the license plate of the vehicle
- Bicycle color
- Direction of flight
