Edward and Virginia
The
Virginia, Edward, Trinity, Tupper, Elmwood Block Club, known as the VETTE is
comprised of sections of the streets within its name, invites the community to
join members of the club for an evening of great music, comedy and poetry at a
fundraiser to help with the beautification efforts
of the neighborhood. This includes sustaining the
neighborhood’s Grassroots Community Garden and to fund a
new garden on the corner of Edward and Virginia, Sunday, March 25
from 3 to 6 pm at Nietzsche’s, 248 Allen Street, Buffalo, NY.
The event will be headlined by the unique musical talents of The Stamplickers,
which will rock the crowd with an array of musical genres and upbeat
performance style. The evening will also feature the talents of professional
comedian Tim Joyce, pianist and singer Annie Philippone, award-winning poet
Celia White and the acoustic melodies of Joe Rozler.
All proceeds from the
VETTE fundraiser will be used to maintain
and build upon the Trinity/Tupper Grassroots Community Garden and to fund a new
proposed beautification effort at the corner of Edward and Virginia. The
Trinity/Tupper garden was established during the spring of 2011 and has grown
to be one of the most unique gardens in the city. The VETTE Block
Club also has plans to bring new life to the corner of Edward and Virginia,
which is currently a vacant parcel. Plans for the garden include
ornamental trees, shrubs, flowers and other, largely native, perennials
intended to attract pollinators including bees, butterflies and hummingbirds.
“The
VETTE Block Club came into existence in late 2010 in an
effort to unite and beautify a historic section of Buffalo
that had been previously left out of the various neighboring block
clubs, but has always been a hidden gem in the Allentown District,” said Erik
Hartnett, president, VETTE Block Club. “To assist our mission to improve
and beautify the streets that make up the VETTE Block Club, we
welcome the general public to attend our fabulous fundraiser to help the block
club improve the aesthetics of an essential neighborhood within the
preservation district of the city, while assisting us in creating a greater
sense of pride and cohesion in an important neighborhood of the Queen City.”
